Introduction
When Tony Carroll first starting training the Club's horses, he took over the yard of the Club's previous trainer John Spearing (just half a mile from Group One Racing's HQ), and we were delighted to switch our allegiance to such a shrewd trainer.
John Spearing had trained over 20 winners for the Club.
Tony has gone from strength to strength, and trained 49 winners in 2005 and 48 so far in 2006 (to 7/12/06), under both sets of rules.
He has recently moved to a new purpose built training establishment at Cropthorne, Worcestershire and Group 1 Racing has moved its HQ
to Harvington, Nr. Evesham, Worcestershire to be closer!
The horses work every day other than Sunday (and including Sunday if they are due to run) with road work on Wednesdays and the main gallop days being Tuesday and Friday AM.
Recently Thursday AM have been the schooling day for the hurdlers and chasers.
As well as being a first class trainer, Tony Carroll is an exceptionally nice guy, and all Club members are made personally welcome down the stables and gallops.
This level of service is unrivalled in any Racing Club anywhere in the world (let alone the UK), where generally larger sums of money are also involved for racehorse ownership.
Smaller sums, of course, are involved where social ownership is effectively "hospitality events" and drawing lots for owners tickets.
Tony has done a superb job of training winners for the Club, and following on from the Club's homebred dual winner NDR's Cash For Fun (out of racemare Basic Fun, the Club's first ever winner)
Tony trained 7 winners for the Club in the past 18 months, 4 wins by Dark Society and 2 wins by Be Wise Girl, both of which horses have improved substantially since joining Tony.
Pips Assertive Way was a Stratford winner. Gouranga, 4th 1st time out over hurdles in a £20k added Class 2 juvenile hurdle (4/12/06) represents the start of a notch up in class of horses.
Now that Tony's horses have settled into the new training regime we are expecting 2007 to be the best year yet for the Group 1 Racing Club.
Tony generally trains a high percentage of his winners in January & February. Watch out!
Hugh Collingridge has trained a few winners for the Club (notably Landrfun - also ex Basic Fun!)
Hugh trains from Exning, near Newmarket and is also a most friendly and personable individual, making Club members welcome whenever they visit his yard.
Head Quarters based Hugh Collingridge at Newmarket until recently trained Chasing prospect Forest Heath for Group 1 Racing
Information second to none
Both trainers are extremely successful in landing major gambles and have done so on numerous occasions, and this information has been provided to Group One Club members on the normal rate "hotline" and more recently (since January 2003) to subscribers to InsideInfo.
Since it's inception InsideInfo has recommended over 200 winners, the bulk of which are from the yards of AW Carroll and HJ Collingridge.
Dr. Foster, Group 1's Racing Manager, goes down to the Cropthorne yard most days to discuss entries for the Club's growing string, to watch the work for the Club's and other horses especially on the main work days
to get the inside track for the Club's InsideInfo service, which is free to Club members.
Dr. Foster then updates the on line member's area on the Club's web-site most days and sends out the InsideInfo SMS's with the best prices from OddsChecker
As a Club member you will have up-to-the-minute information straight from the yard available either via the web-site or to your mobile phone.
No wonder the racing club "hotline" and the InsideInfo SMS Service are so profitable.
AGM and Open Day
The club is privileged to have the services for the 2007 Club of local trainer Tony Carroll at Cropthorne, Worcestershire and each year we try to run an AGM as the Racing Club horses all run under the "Group 1 Racing (1994) Ltd" banner. We also run a stable Open Day at the same time, when you have a guided tour of all 52 inmates!
Tony is a very sociable individual, Tony Carroll hosted a recent Group 1 Racing AGM / Open Day which was followed by drinks / barbeque at Tony's house.
The next AGM / Open Day will be in the Spring of 2007
